Bay Area Parent-Child Interaction Therapy

Proven effective treatment approach for families with preschool and school aged children

We Focus on helping families to thrive!

When families are thriving, children bring joy and deeper meaning to life.  They help to remind us to stop and pay attention to the present moment and to enjoy the simple pleasures in the world.  They may be a reminder for us of more carefree times in our own lives.  Challenges will rise and fall while families continue to grow and develop together.

When to Seek Help

At times families can become disrupted from a naturally supportive and adaptive state. They may find their loving moments being replaced by increasing numbers of frustrating battles. Parents can find themselves in a place where they love their children, but they just don’t enjoy them as they had envisioned. Parents can feel as though they are grasping at straws by reading different parenting books, and trying different strategies to varying success, but continue to see the quality of their relationship spiral.

Children don’t come with a manual but our program comes with a real-time coach in your ear to help you navigate parenting and ways to support your unique child.  If some of what is written here resonates with you, it’s time to get support.

Proven Effective Treatment Approach

Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT) has been proven by numerous studies to be an effective therapy with children and families. Through Parent-Child Interaction Therapy children experience a significant reduction in oppositional behavior, parents report significant reductions in parental stress, and the relationship between caregivers and children is enhanced. Children at risk of losing childcare or school placements are often able to maintain or return to their childcare and school settings. It’s not unusual for children who previously met the criteria for a diagnosis such as Oppositional Defiant Disorder, or ADHD, to no longer meet the criteria for a diagnosis post-treatment. For the children who do maintain these diagnoses they can experience significant symptom reduction and their parents are often more empowered with the tools to effectively manage their child’s symptoms and their own parental stress.  PCIT is also endorsed by the current New York Times Parenting Guide as one of the most effective treatments for working with tantruming behavior.
